Wizards has announced the name of the next Magic the Gathering digital title as Magic the Gathering: Arena. Although it has released few details about it as of yet, we will be getting our first look at it during a Stream on September 7, so fans of the franchise who are itching for a new digital CCG battleground to war over, won't have long to wait.
A new Magic game has been rumored to be in the works for some time now, as it was announced back in mid-June that the current flagship digital Magic franchise, Magic Duels, was not set to receive any new content updates. Typically for Wizard, that means that it has moved its developmental team entirely over to a new project and now that idea has turned out to be true: Magic the Gathering Arena is coming.

Announced on the official Wizards Twitter, the game has a logo and a name, but that's about it for now. Commenters and fans have pointed out that "Arena" was the first ever Magic the Gathering novel ever released. It introduced Mana Crypts, which are powerful artefacts with the potential to grant you much mana, but do harm in equal measure.
This has lead to much speculation about what the new game will be about or how it might differ from previous Magic the Gathering games. For now though we'll just need to wait and see, as September could be our first look at what it will really play like.
