A few years ago, Facebook updated its notifications policy to minimize the number of game notifications sent to users. Fast forward to today, the number one complaint from Facebook users is: too many game notifications.
During a Townhall Q&A at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, the top voted question to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was "I seriously don't want any more invitations to Candy Crush Saga — how can I stop getting them?"
Mark acknowledged the problem that relayed it to Facebook development team in Menlo Park to see what could be done. "There are some tools that are kind of outdated that allow people to send invitations to people who have never used a game, and have a gotten a lot of invitations in the past, but don’t play games on Facebook," he said. "And we hadn’t prioritized shutting that down, but if this is the top thing that people care about, then we’ll prioritize that and we’ll do it."
Facebook team is currently investigating creative options such as preventing game notifications from reaching users who don't engage actively in games and turning off game notifications on mobile. Either way, this annoyance is certainly on top of Facebook's priorities now.
