Mass Effect is a series that's most well known for its compelling story telling, wonky driving and an ultimately controversial ending. Although there has been some multiplayer for it in the past, the single player has always been its main focus, but that may not be the case in the next one in the franchise, which is getting tipped for multiplayer far earlier in its development than any of the previous games.
The reason we know this, is because Mass Effect 4 developmental director, Chris Wynn, recently tweeted that they were looking for new people to work on the game, one of which is an "Online Producer." While that could theoretically be some new, irritating DRM, it seems most likely that we're looking at some form of decided online mode, which means multiplayer.
Especially when the job description lists this, as one of the role's "key responsibilities": "Create and champion the vision of the multi-player, connected experiences and online features of the game which respects the project leadership goals and be accountable for the quality targets and the results achieved."
The new position will also see you handling marketing, looking at analytics to gauge where best to take development and helping to deal with younger and inexperienced producers who are on the up.
Of course the game may not even be called Mass Effect 4, but it's within the same sort of universe. Similarly so, it won't feature Commander Shepherd, so will certainly be a different take on the game series from anything we've seen before.
