Mass Effect: Andromeda will be the first game in the series since the release of Mass Effect 3 in 2012, so it's been a long time coming. Details have been a little thin on the game's plot, setting, characters and just about every facet of it, but we're finally learning much about the new galaxy humans and their classic alien pals are looking to call home, thanks to a new trailer release for the main story.
Following the events of Mass Effect 3, humanity has fled to distant stars to try and find a new place to call home, but they've found an ancient threat far more terrifying than anything that's come before. We don't see the antagonist in this trailer, except from behind and slightly to the side, but they seem scary enough. They certainly put the fear in Ryder, the new male character for the series.
He has a female counterpart too of course and there are a tonne of male, female and something-else aliens for players to interact with and no doubt have intimate relationships with. You'll also be able to find out more about these characters using the optional loyalty missions, which send you down the rabbit hole of their lives to discover their past.
Andromeda also features epic boss fights, as is evidenced by the sheer gargantuan size of some of the robotic enemies you'll need to take on. But the new weaponry you'll be equipped with seems likely to set you up for the task.
Mass Effect: Andromeda drops in Spring next year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
