Following a frosty reception to Mass Effect: Andromeda earlier this year, Bioware Montreal staff have mostly been moved over to other projects under the Bioware banner. As Kotaku reports, many of those who previously worked on the fourth entry in the Mass Effect series are now beavering away on games like Star Wars Battlefront II, Anthem and the next Dragon Age game. That means though, that most of the plans for Andromeda's single player DLC have been scrapped.
There are a few people still working away on the game, which initially left hope for the few fans of it that something extra would be coming their way, but that now seems unlikely. A number of sources said to be familiar with the matter, have now come forward to confirm that there will be no single player DLC for Andromeda, nor will there be a sequel as was originally planned.
Instead, the remaining few staff who continue to work on at Bioware Montreal will focus on patching out the remaining bugs in the game and will expand the multiplayer portion a little in weeks to come. They are mostly there for maintenance work though, as it seems unlikely that the game will receive any sort of major rework in the near future.
Bioware is remaining quite tight-lipped about all of this, for now, perhaps wanting to avoid any more negative publicity related to the game. Regardless though, the cat seems to be out of the bag and unless Bioware turns around and announces plans for DLC and a number of new developers joining the team, it seems unlikely to happen.
Mass Effect Andromeda could be the last entry in the series for some time.
