Various blogs are claiming, quoting Konami sources, that MGS 4 will not be a PS3 exclusive as an XBox 360 version will be released a year later. It appears that at least one of those blogs has been served with a cease and desist order by an unnamed company.
The posts claim that with MGS 4 expected for the PS3 in November 2007, an X360 version will be released one year later in November 2008. We have seen other Sony exclusives open up to Microsoft, with G.T.A. being the better known example, but Metal Gear Solid is one of the better selling Sony exclusives and one of the company's most prized assets.
Practically, the release of a competing version, a full year later, is unlikely to cause a major sales problem for Sony but the loss of one of its crown jewels to its staunchest rival will certainly strike a blow to Sony morale. MGS 4 exclusivity was one of the major reasons quoted by prospective PS3 buyers, especially those already owning an XBox 360.
We still cannot confirm or deny the story as Sony has yet to comment on the possibility of an X360 version of MGS 4.
