Micro Machines World Series drops today, looks to revitalise series

Micro Machines is making its big comeback as a franchise today, with Micro Machines World Series. The game takes us back to the table and countertops of yesteryear, with uprated graphics, new vehicles, accessories tracks and weapons. While the launch trailer for the game focuses on the battle portion of its gameplay, racing is at the core of Micro Machines action, it's just on a miniature scale.

Developed once again by Codemasters, Micro Machines World Series brings the series into the modern era and introduces online matchmaking for races and battles. There will be many familiar maps and tracks for fans of the franchise, as well as a number of new locations to tax new and old players alike.

There's support for up to 12 racers for online play and up to four players locally, whether you play on the PC, Xbox One or PS4. They can pick from a variety of vehicles, including classics like hovercraft, tanks and drag racers, among many others and there is a wide variety of weapons to sling at and hit your opponents with.

Designed as a party game, Micro Machines will be fun for serious gamers too, though this one definitely falls into the Mario Kart-style racers, in that you shouldn't take it too seriously.
