Microsoft has given former Lionhead developers Mike West, Craig Oman and Marcus Lynn permission to work on their own Fable game.

The three developers used to work at Lionhead studio which was closed by Microsoft in April 2016. The trio worked on Fable Fortune card game for 18 months, so they approached Microsoft and asked permission to finish and release the game on their own. They were pleasantly surprised when Microsoft agreed.

Fable Fortune is Fable-themed collectible card game that feels too similar to Heathstone.

"We approached Microsoft - hoping for the best, prepared for a corporate hand to the face. To our delight they were very open to the idea and agreed to grant us the license for Fable Fortune," said Flaming Fowl.

"To be clear, we haven’t been granted a license to the entire Fable franchise, Microsoft have retained these rights, but we have the creative freedom to continue developing Fortune as an independent studio."

The three developers started Flaming Fowl studio and turned to to collect the £250,000 ($364,000) needed to fund the game. At the time of writing, the campaign collected slightly over £30,000 from 900 backers. If the Kickstarter campaign reached its funding goal, the game will be released on PC and Xbox then to iOS and Android.
