Microsoft tried to dress it up as much as possible, but the company's Q4 and full fiscal year 2014 (ending June 2014) financial results revealed a less-than stellar Xbox One market performance.
Microsoft avoided revealing exact Xbox One sales figures by lumping them together with those of Xbox 360 and reporting them together as Xbox hardware sales. Moreover, the company reported the number of units shipped instead of sell-through figures. In other words, Microsoft only revealed the number of Xbox 360 and Xbox One hardware units delivered to stores rather than the actual number of consoles bought by customers.
According to Microsoft, 1.1 million Xbox consoles were shipped in 2014. For comparison, 1 million Xbox 360 units were shipped in 2013. This represents a year-over-year gain of just 100,000 units despite the new console release. Those numbers bring Xbox total sales to 11.7 million units.
Financially, Xbox hardware sales revenue grew by $104 million, but Microsoft chalked that up to Xbox One's higher price point. Microsoft didn't reveal sales figures for any first or third party games.
