Microsoft Flight Simulator will get VR support before end of year

Microsoft Flight Simulator, the 2020 rendition of its classic flight-sim series, is set to go on sale (outside of pre-orders) on August 18, ushering in a new generation of explorative, open world flight with astounding graphics, an unprecedented level of detail on cities and airports, and even tracking of real-world, real-time air traffic and weather through cloud processing and rendering. In the months to come, you'll be able to enjoy all of that in virtual reality, too.

The virtual reality update for the game will be entirely free, no matter what tier of Flight Sim you purchase (with extra planes and airports) and is expected to debut this Autumn, most likely alongside the launch of HP's Reverb G2 in September. As the highest fidelity mainstream VR headset yet released — with many specs borrowed from Valve's high-end — Flight Simulator is a great launch title for the platform and could help usher in the next-generation of VR gaming.

Other Windows Mixed Reality headsets will be compatible with the game from the get go too, though it's not yet clear if SteamVR will also be supported — it certainly will be in the future, however.
