Microsoft has often been criticised for abandoning the PC platform throughout the '00s, focusing instead on its growing Xbox business and neglecting the platform that made Windows the dominant PC platform for gaming over the past couple of decades, but that's all set to change according to head of Xbox at Microsoft, Phil Spencer.
Speaking at the Microsoft Build conference yesterday, Spencer talked up how much more committed to the PC Microsoft was now, especially with the continuing push for Windows 10 and its expanded store front. This, he said, was the reason games like Quantum Break were heading to PC, despite being originally planned as Xbox exclusives.
That won't be the case with Halo 5 though. That was one exclusive that would stay an exclusive he said.
"In terms of Halo FPS on PC, I think there’s a ton of opportunity for us right now, but I don’t want to get into a world where we’re looking back, like at Halo 5," Spencer said.
Microsoft does have some games in the works though that will be cross platform. Halo Wars 2 for example is being built from the ground up for both platforms, to take advantage of each of their strengths.
Microsoft was more interested in doing that moving forward he said. Instead of direct ports of games, it wanted to build titles that were strong on either or both platforms, and create them with that in mind from the beginning.
Do you think that's a solid strategy for Microsoft? Would you like to see Halo 5 on the PC?
