Following its pledge to support Oculus Rift, Microsoft published a procedure to improve the virtual reality headset's performance.
Microsoft released the necessary blueprints to 3D print better lenses than the ones the Oculus Rift ships with. Microsoft claims that its lenses should improve visual quality and eliminate lens distortion at the cost of narrowing the field of view.
Microsoft insists that its lens design is "significantly better than the lenses that come with the Oculus," but there is a caveat: the material needed to print the lens is quite expensive and a fairly advanced 3D printer is needed to print it with the required accuracy.
