During GDC, Xbox head Phil Spencer shared Microsoft's plans to enable "universal apps" that can run equally on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs as well as on Windows Phone tablets and smartphones.
Windows 10 will act as the unified operating system for the different Microsoft platforms that'll run universal apps. This will also allow cross-platform play whereas Xbox players will seamlessly play against PC and tablet players.
Additionally, Microsoft plans to release a wireless adapter which would allow Xbox One peripherals to work on PC. The company will also update its Windows Store to support cross-buy, allowing Xbox owners to purchase games through their Windows PC and vice versa.
