Microsoft shows off new Hololens demo

As much as virtual reality is an exciting development for gamers and digital tech enthusiasts, Microsoft's augmented reality via Hololens also has some potentially amazing uses in its future. Although less of a gaming tool than VR might end up being, AR could be a fantastic learning tool.

In a new CGI demonstration of how Hololens could be used in the future, we see a medical student learning about the different ways in which the human body and its circulatory system operate, by stripping back successive layers of a digital body, making it possible to teach anatomy without using a cadaver that must be carved up and dissected.

This gives much more fluid control over the body being demonstrated on and makes for a better learning environment as there can be labels and animation to make the content feel more real and understood.

Through pointing, grabbing, pushing and pulling, people can manipulate the digital content too, making it possible to interact with a digital model in a natural fashion, compared to changing it through the movement of a mouse.

The same could be applied to physics, with planets and black holes, chemistry with floating bonds and all sorts of amazing applications - just in teaching.

What are some of the uses you could see for the technology beyond the classroom?
