The "H4LT" hacking group which leaked the Xbox One SDK a few days ago revealed that Microsoft has silently unlocked a seventh CPU core to be used by game developers, leaving only one core dedicated to background processes and Operating System functions.
According to the group, the extra core was unlocked discretely in 2014 and it was utilized by games such Assassin's Creed: Unity.
The seventh core is not meant to be used freely by all games though. Instead, Microsoft decided to allow game developers to enable it at the cost of losing Kinect in-game functionality.
