If you've gone looking for a new flight simulator in the past few years, you'd likely have been disappointed by the offerings available. Not because the games you can play aren't great, but because there hasn't been anything that new or exciting that's released in the past few years. One of the greatest ever, was Microsoft's Flight Simulator X, that came out in 2006. It's a great game still, but it does look dated, even with new content and mods. But Flight Simulator 2020, looks to change that.
This footage comes from the latest technical alpha for the game and showcases just how far videogame graphics have come in the past 13 years. Environments look fantastically pretty, with gorgeous water, incredibly detailed cityscapes, and broad vistas with incredibly draw distance. And that's just the environments you're flying over. The planes themselves look borderline photo-realistic, with amazing lighting, and the detailed cockpits and exteriors that the flight simulator series is known for.
And we're only just getting started. The developers released a roadmap for the game, showing that we can expect the closed alpha testing to continue through September and October, with major updates to the build over that time. The developers will also be introducing a new feedback system to improve the relationship between it and the community of testers.
Flight Simulator 2020 will, undoubtedly, show up in 2020, but there is still lots more to do. What do you want to see in the game when it releases?
