Minecon news includes new enemies and graphics pack updates

This year's Minecon event has come and gone and amidst all the excitement and blocky gameplay, there are a few key announcements about the future of the game which have fans talking. Firstly, the player voted, new-enemy for the game is a manta ray that comes after you if you don't get enough sleep. We also now know that the next update will overhaul underwater biomes, making for much more intriguing reasons to head beneath the surface to explore the various underwater locations.

The Super Duper Graphics Pack though, has been delayed.

Hosted by actor Will Arnett, Minecon 2017 was, as Kotaku reported, quite short-lived compared to previous events. It lasted just 90-minutes, which considering it involved a dance number, shows that this year's event wasn't quite as impactful as years gone by.

Coverage officially starts at around the 40-minute mark.

Still, there are some exciting announcements in there. The winner of the "mob vote," saw a flying manta ray take the top spot. Called the "monster of the night skies" it will dive bomb players who haven't spent any time in their bed as of late, adding a little more incentive to cater to your character's needs like other survival titles.

One of the other options was an ocean monster, which might have been a nice addition to join the shipwrecks and kelp forests coming to the game, but now it may never make its appearance. That's how some fans no doubt feel about the Super Duper Graphics Pack, which although hotly anticipated, is now not set to appear until 2018.
