MineCraft Might Be The First Game To Offer Constant Updates On Xbox LIVE

A lot of developers (especially Valve) have criticized the Xbox LIVE games update policy that forced each update to go through an exhaustive and lengthy approval process. Fortunately, it seems that Microsoft might start relaxing those rules with the release of the upcoming XBL version of MineCraft.

The news come from Paddy Burns, chief technology officer at 4J Studios, who told Edge Magazine that he is currently in talks with Microsoft to allows XBL MineCraft to be constantly updated without going through the approval process for each tiny update.

4J Studios are developing the Xbox LIVE version of MineCraft and they intend to release it with the same features found in the (old) beta version of the PC game, then update it continuously and gradually until it is on bar with the current PC version.

"Microsoft knows that to do a similar thing that's on PC where they constantly update it, that's a very difficult thing to do on Xbox because you have to go through the full tests," Burns explained.

"But they are quite keen to move towards that - they do see it as the future, so I think we might be the first to do constant updates."

However, Burns noted that 4J Studios don't want to update the XBL version as frequent as the PC version is; instead, they plan to release new updates every two months.
