While Battlefield 3 has been a massive hit, DLC development is ongoing and there is certainly a Battlefield 4 in the works somewhere, Dice has been keen to let it be known that it is not just becoming a "Battlefield factory." There are other projects on the cards, like Mirror's Edge 2.
However the way this was initially hinted at by EA Games vice president Patrick Soderlund, seemed a bit condescending to the developers. "The minute we start saying 'you're going to make a Battlefield game for the rest of your life', they're going to go some place else. So for them to make great Battlefield games there need to be other things for them to do as well. That's why we have people who move around quite a bit." To make sure it doesn't sound too much like DICE chains its employees to coding stations for Battlefield games, he did clarify that some people do actually enjoy making them, "And then obviously we have a boatload of people that just want to make Battlefield because they love it."
The big reveal however came from NGmoco head, Ben Cousins, who said that, "It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE." While there has not been any official announcement from EA or DICE on this matter, it was hinted at late last year by then producer at DICE, Patrick Liu, that the market was ready for a new Mirror's Edge.
Considered to be a critical, but not necessarily commercial success, Mirror's Edge was a fast paced - though occasionally clunky - FPS free running title that saw players sprinting and leaping across roof tops, in a stark white future city, populated with the occasional red ladder to show you where to go.
So MegaGamers, are you excited by the potential for a sequel? I know I am.
