While you and I might debate whether the console is officially called Genesis or Mega Drive, neither of us can deny that the mods being made for Sega's Mega Drive collection on Steam are fun. Just days after workshop support for many of the company's most classic games was added, already there's plenty to play with.
Did you ever want to play with Knuckles through the original Sonic the Hedgehog? Done. Want bug fixes and better music in Sonic 3? Done. Want to play Streets of Rage 2, but have all of the enemies make that weird Tim Allen noise from Home Improvements when they die?
In fact that are already close to 150 different modifications you can make to the various classic titles in the library. There's tweaks for Ecco the Dolphin, Phantasy Star II, Shinobi 3, Comix Zone, Dynamite Headdy, Gunstar Heroes and more.
Some add new characters, make the games easier or harder, add new save points - there's loads to play with.
While I might prefer to break out my own Mega Drive II when I fancy a bit of old school action - nothing beats holding the real controllers IMO - but this is great to see what people can do with these classic games and a bit of ingenuity.
What kind of mods would you like to see in the future?
