It seems that even the most hardcore games are no longer immune to the corruption of micro-transactions and paid DLC.
Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of Mortal Kombat is its famous fatalities where the winning player gets to finish off his helpless opponent in the most gruesome ways. Those fatalities have always been tough as nail to execute by requiring the entry of a memorized complex chain of commands at a specific distance, but in Mortal Kombat X all those difficulties can go away… for a toll fee.
For the low price of $0.99, Mortal Kombat X players can have up to 5 "easy fatalities" before having to recharge; or they can have up to 30 ones in bulk for the $4.99.
While some may argue that fatalities need to be hard to execute in order to keep the satisfaction of pulling one off, we don't really see how paying to jump the line would fit into that rationalization. In fact, previous Mortal Kombat titles included cheat codes for one-button fatalities and – at least for us – they were as enjoyable as any gory revenge would feel.
