If you enjoy making compilation cd's with tracks from cd's you already own, or if you just want to have backup copies, think again. Those adorable record company people want to put a stop to that.
If they get their way, music cd's will soon carry copy protection. Their plans also include special protection so that a regular music cd won't play on the CD-ROM drive of a pc.
The question raised by all this is however, do they really think that they are that much better than the movie industry? If DVD protection can be cracked so easily what makes them think that music cd's will be any different? Even if it works, a good cd player can be easily "fed" into a decent sound card and a copy can be made.
It seems that their plans are to make music piracy harder, rather than to stop it alltogether.
