Following a three year delay Final Fantasy 12 has finally been released in Japan for the Playstation 2.
The significance of the event cannot be denied as Square Enix Co's Final Fantasy franchise has sold over 65 million copies worldwide while the company has shipped two million copies of the new title to Japanese retailers.
This is a pretty meaty game, Square Enix President Yoichi Wada said at a special event to mark the launch in Tokyo's Shibuya-ku. I think this will become a work that symbolizes PS2.
If the XBox 360 launch failed to excite Japanese gamers, the FF12 release was a completely different story with queues forming overnight in anticipation of the launch. The first person to buy the game stated I'm expecting it will be even better than the 'Final Fantasy 10 I loved so much.
Final Fantasy 12 is set in a world called Ivalice and focuses on the story of Vaan and the exiled queen, Ashe. Expected since 2003, Final Fantasy 12 promises to do wonders for Sony whose PS3 delay may have disappointed fans and investors alike.
