Get ready for a pre-E3 Mortal Kombat announcement, as it looks like one is in the works. Thanks to an Amazon listing (now pulled), we now know that there's a new version of the long time beat 'em up franchise, hitting PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2015.
This shouldn't come as a massive surprise to fans of the series, as if you keep up to date on the latest MK news, then chances are you've seen tweets hinting at the reveal of a new Mortal Kombat game from long time series developer Ed Boon. He's been rumoured - along with the rest of NetherRealm Studios - to be working on Mortal Kombat X (10) for a while now, but his recent messages suggesting that something big was coming on the 2nd of June.
For those who haven't noticed, that's today.
There were no other details about the game in the Amazon listing, so what else do we know about it from elsewhere? Nothing concrete unfortunately, but considering Ed Boon's interest in whether fans will be buying a Kinect-less Xbox One or not since its release, it makes you wonder if the next game might incorporate Kinect motion tracking features. It wouldn't necessarily be a smart move, unless very well implemented, as the Kinect hasn't been known to handle more than dance games particularly well.
Still, if any fighter was able to nail motion tracking combat, it would bee an impressive set piece and selling point for the Microsoft console.
What do you guys think of a new Mortal Kombat? Is it continuing a classic game series, or is it time to hang up the fatality combo list and call it a day?
