Considering the glut of survival games out there that charge you with surviving for weeks and months at a time, and in many cases indefinitely, Impact Winter's demand that you survive for just 30 days seems like a walk in the park. But it won't be. With an oppressive, snowy landscape bearing down on you, wolves and perhaps more out in the wastelands and an ever dwindling supply of food and materials to burn, it's not going to be a piece of cake.
The upcoming game from Bandai Namco is set in some near future, where our protagonist is accompanied by a drone of sorts that follows him around and provides light and perhaps more. But he's not the only one. Holed up in an abandoned and snowed in church, you'll have to build up your defences, muster your strength and master the elements as you are beset by various horrors and dangers over the weeks leading up to your rescue.
In 30 days, help is coming, we're told, though we wouldn't be surprised if that was a narrative hook that is proved completely wrong when the time comes.
The setting seems interesting, the people you find along the way may have unique backstories and reasons for being there.
The game looks like a mixture between This War of Mine, I am Alive and The Flame In The Flood, but there's clearly a lot of indi influence in all aspects of this title.
Impact Winter will hit Steam on April 12 and will also be available on Xbox One and PS4 at some time in the near future.
