The Gamestation store in the Prospect Centre, Hull was the venue for a Guinness World Record this weekend.
On Saturday 27th March, the Official European Street Fighter IV Champion, Ryan Hart took on 169 challengers in 4 hours and beat every one of them, smashing the previous record by 61 for the record title Longest winning streak on Street Fighter IV.
The atmosphere in the store was tense; crowds came and watched as Ryan picked off his opponents one by one.
"It was like watching a machine in action! Ryan is a Terminator," said Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday, who adjudicated the event. "One after the other, the challengers fell by the wayside as Ryan sat calmly, quietly knocking them off like a silent killer. His quickest victory - a Perfect finish - took just 7 seconds against a bewildered Chun-Li. The average survival time was about 12 seconds. It was a massacre in Hull."
Tired out and relieved to have broken the record Ryan said "At one point I was really unsure whether or not I would beat the record but I just put my mind to the task and got on with it. It was a great result."
The event was to celebrate the latest Guinness World Records 2010: Gamers Edition which showcases all the gaming records set over the past year from the highest score on Donkey Kong to Guitar Hero Champions. The new record set on Saturday is now shortlisted for the next edition.
