It's a strange state of affairs when offline, singleplayer gameplay is considered innovative, but that's exactly what's happening with the next Need for Speed game. The developer, Ghost Games, announced some details for the next game in the series and one of the key points it made was that unlike the 2015 reboot of the franchise, this one wouldn't be an always-on game.
That means you can pause the game. Halt the presses.
Big details about the game won't be released until EA's big Play event in June, but until then, we have been teased with a few more points of interest about the next game.
Along with offline play, gamers can expect the heavy customisation of previous Need for Speed games to return, letting them customise their cars to their heart's content. Cops will also be returning, suggesting some of the exciting cat and mouse gameplay of previous entries in the series.
Graphically, we're told that this will be the best looking Need for Speed yet, though that's not wholly unsurprising. It is the latest release in the series after all.
"Need for Speed has an amazing history and at Ghost we feel very honored and privileged to be driving it forward. We’ll be speaking to you again very, very soon," it said in a blog post.
