What was originally planned as a possible remake of the original Nier game, is now looking more likely to be a sequel to Nier: Automata, considering the game's surprising success. The souls-like game about robots battling robots in a dead world, has sold more than 1.5 million copies, which is much more than Square Enix ever expected of it.
While a sequel has yet to be confirmed by anyone at square, the creators of Nier: Automata have been rather optimistic of it. They did, however, say that they would only create a new game in the series if they could get the old team back together.
In a chat with RPGSite, they said that their biggest concern now was that someone might die before that happened.
"Yoko and I are going to make the request while being nervous again (laughs). I fear that there’s a possibility where someone [among us] will die (laughs), like we wouldn’t be able to physically gather."
Why are these relatively young people so concerned about dying? While it's all tongue in cheek, they do reference drinking as being a major pastime that has obviously dangerous connotations long term.
"Either Saito-san (who likes drinking) or my own liver is in a dangerous zone. If I’m [still] alive, I’ll think about it," they said.
How would you guys feel about a sequel to Nier: Automata? It's had difficulties on the PC because of performance issues, but most seem to have cleared up since release.
