Nintendo's Wii and DS remarkable success has been globally acknowledged and strong sales of both consoles in the Japanese market have been repeatedly reported. But having every single title of the top 21 games sold in Japan during the Golden Week developed for Wii or DS, was certainly unexpected.
The Japanese Golden Week is a series of public holidays similar to the western Christmas period and that might explain why Nintendo's family oriented games dominated the charts. All of the top 21 best sellers were developed for Wii or DS, with 15 of them developed by Nintendo itself. The first non-Nintendo title in the Japanese charts was Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd for the PSP which came in the 22nd place. There were no PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 titles in the top thirty, and the highest ranking PlayStation 2 game was Konami's Pro Baseball Spirits 4,ranking 26.
The top ten sellers during the Japanese Golden Week are as follows:
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (109,326 units, DS, Square Enix)
Super Paper Mario (90,151 units, Wii, Nintendo)
Wii Sports (84,782 units, Wii, Nintendo)
