If you were one of those people that had thought about getting a Wii U later this year for the release of the next Super Smash Bros. but considered not bothering as there was no way to play it with your classic Gamecube controller, think again, as Nintendo has just announced the upcoming release of a Gamecube controller adaptor for its latest console, meaning everyone can play with the classic pad.
The announcement for the new tech was made during Nintendo's video about the Super Smash Bros. Invitational tournament taking place at E3 this year and streaming live on Twitch.
While most of the video shows off the people set to take part in the pro Smash Bros Tournament, with characters as well as human competitors highlighted, the end of the video shows "control options," and then shows off the new adaptor.
While the video doesn't tell us when the hardware will be available for sale, the fact that it's working well enough that Nintendo is happy to use it at E3, suggests it may not be long before it appears in the wild for Nintendo fans to pick up.
What I'm wondering about, is how old will the controllers be that Nintendo plans to use at its tournament? Will it make brand new Gamecube controllers for people to use, or will we see an interesting mix up of 10 year+ old hardware going up against brand new Wii U gamepads?
