48 hours after word got out that Nintendo might be working on a new DS version, the company's press event held in Japan confirmed it.
As reported earlier, the new DS, dubbed DSi, features a built in camera and music playback capabilities. It also includes a built in flash memory as well as an SD card slot and it will be able to use its web browser to download new games through the new Nintendo DS Shop.
Nintendo DS Shop games prices will range from free to 800 Nintendo Points ($8). The new handheld will be released in Japan on November 1, 2008 for 18,900 yen (around $180).
Nintendo's new handheld is 12% slimmer than its predecessor but its screen is 0.25 inches larger. It hosts a 3 Mega Pixels camera but the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot has been removed.
