In an investor note that bragged about selling 86.01 million Wii consoles before the end of March 2011, Nintendo confirmed that that it "has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii."
"We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles," the note added.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata told the investors that the new system has become necessary because "it became difficult for developers to surprise customers with the current Wii."
Iwata didn't give a timeframe for the new console's release, but he noted that it won't be out in Q1 2012.
