News from several technology-sites indicates that Nintendo might be evaluating new accelerometer technology for the Wii Remote.
Currently, Wii acceleration sensors are supplied by Analog Devices Inc (ADI) of the US and Franco-Italian firm STMicroelectronics (ST). According to industry sources, Nintendo has already received and is evaluating samples from several companies; the most prominent of them is Kionix Inc, a US-based venture firm.
Kionix was regarded as such because of the "high reliability based on its past records of supplying sensors for hard disk devices" and because MEMS-based (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems ) sensor is several times thicker than ADI's device, making it "easier to enhance sensitivity."
