Nintendo has acknowledged that Metroid: Other M suffers from a bug wherein collecting the ice beam, progressing to the next room, killing the enemies there to open a new door and then turning back and re-entering the ice beam chamber causes the path forward to be closed forever.
Nintendo has advised gamers who didn't encounter the bug yet to avoid it by simply progressing one room further after opening the door. The company has also offered a solution for gamers who encountered it: simply mail the savegame file to Nintendo and they will fix it and mail it back to you.
That's right. The only way for gamers to send their savegames to Nintendo is through trusty old postal system, not that new internet thing. To do so, players are expected - by Nintendo - to copy the savegame to an SD card and send it or, failing to do so, send in their Wii console itself. Either way, the turnaround time is around 10 days.
If you are affected by the bug, you can send your SD card or Wii console to 56 Kaguraden Ogura-cho in Japan, or call 1-800-255-3700 to be informed about other mailing addresses.
