Japanese business journal Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that a new version of Nintendo's DS handheld before the end of the year.
According to the Japanese journal, a.k.a. Nikkei, the new DS will feature a built in camera, a larger screen and will double function as a music player. The handheld's wireless capabilities will also be improved. New games will be able to access and utilize the new camera to offer new gameplay possibilities. The new DS should retail for less than 20,000 yen ($188).
Nintendo stated that the Japanese report is "solely based upon [Nikkei's] own research and speculation, without interviewing Nintendo" and refused to comment any further.
"While Nintendo is always working on new hardware, we have not made any announcement about a [new] DS," stated Nintendo.
