Nintendo is said to be working on a mobile game based in the Legend of Zelda universe. It's not clear at this time whether it's going to be based on the recent release of Breath of the Wild, but that is a distinct possibility.
Although it came late to the table with mobile releases, Nintendo's Super Mario Run was a big success and its minor stake in Pokémon Go was a real victory for the Japanese company. It also had a big response to Fire Emblem Heroes and has previously announced that an Animal Crossing game was in the works too.
Moving forward though, we're told that following that game Nintendo is likely to release a Zelda-based smartphone title, developed in conjunction with DeNA, the same company that aided in the creation of previous Nintendo mobile games like Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes.
One question that this raises, is how will Nintendo charge for it? A Zelda game is unlikely to have traditional levels that can be unlocked with microtransactions or one off payments, so it could be that character unlocks or aesthetic options are tied to in-game charges.
One other suggestion is that Nintendo may end up not charging for it at all, instead using the game as a promotional tool to try and drive sales of other Nintendo hardware and software, like its Switch console.
