Coming hot off the back of Nintendo's high selling (for the Wii U at least) Mario Kart 8, with over two million copies sold so far and a bunch of Wii Us with it, a new rumour has appeared that the Japanese developer could be looking to bring a new version of the N64 classic racer, and arguably Mario Kart successor, Diddy Kong racing, to the Wii U.
It's very speculative, with a lot of the reasoning behind the rumour coming from analysis rather than actual information, but needless to say, a new Diddy Kong would be worth getting excited about.
The suggestion is, that off the back of the success of games like Donkey Kong Country Returns, the 2010, Wii and DS title, Nintendo started work on a new version of the game and that production was further bolstered by the recent success of the new Mario Kart.
The idea behind the game is that supposedly, the lesser known Nintendo characters are fighting over who should be the next big star (potentially getting into future Mario Kart games) and therefore they need to take it to the track to find out.
Perhaps the most compelling piece of evidence however, is that Diddy Kong didn't feature anywhere in the recent Mario Kart 8 release, which was surprising because he was thought to be part of the main roster initially. Perhaps Nintendo held him back to make his return in a kart in his own title?
This rumour comes with a heavy pinch of salt, but it's an exciting one no? Who'd be up for another Diddy Kong racer?
