British Computer and Video Games reported via unnamed sources that Japanese and American Nintendo executives are in "serious discussions" about changing Wii U's name.
The reason behind this decision is to avoid consumer confusion due to the strong similarity between the console's name and that of its predecessor. According to the report, Nintendo has already noticed high consumer confusion between the DS and the 3DS.
It is worth noting that Wii was originally named "Nintendo Revolution" before the company decided to change its name suddenly in 2006.
