During its E3 digital event, Nintendo announced its Amiibo line of NFC figurine that can be imported into its games.
The Wii U version of Super Smash Bros will be the first game to support Amiibo, allowing players to import new characters into the game and to save their stats and fighting styles to the figures.
Amiibo support will also be added to the recently released Mario Kart 8.
Wii U is the only console equipped with the NFC hardware required to communicate with Amiibo figurines. However, Iwata has confirmed that support for the platform will be added to the 3DS family of handhelds in the first half of 2015.
