The entire gaming industry is consumed with Virtual Reality euphoria, but not Nintendo.
Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime believes that, no matter how advanced it is now, virtual reality tech still has a long way to become fun enough for gaming.
"What we believe is that, in order for this technology to move forward, you need to make it fun and you need to make it social," he argued. "I haven't walked the floor, so I can't say in terms of what's on the floor today, but at least based on what I've seen to date, it's not fun, and it's not social. It's just tech."
Interestingly, Nintendo was one of the first companies to release virtual reality gaming devices to consumers. The company released its infamous Virtual Boy in 1995 before discontinuing it less than a month later. The Virtual Boy failed due to technical limitations, not the least of which was the fact that its low resolution display was monochromatic. Perhaps, the times have changed but Nintendo is still wary from its foul VR experience. That, or the whole industry is just hyping itself into another bubble.
