Nintendo's VR Labo accessory which effectively turns the Switch into a Google Cardboard, will soon make games like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, playable in virtual reality. While the former will only have pre-defined sections that can be played in VR, Zelda will playable in its entirety.
To access the feature you'll need a Nintendo Switch, one of the two compatible games, and the VR Labo kit. Then to use it, you open up the options menu and look for the option for "VR Goggles," once enabled, you pop the Switch on your face and play it as you would have in 2D, but in an entirely new perspective.
For Mario, Nintendo says players will be able to "Experience small areas of the Cap, Seaside and Luncheon Kingdoms in a whole new way with the Toy-Con VR Goggles. Players must collect music notes and Coins to complete objectives in three new mini-missions."
You can play any part of Breath of the Wild in VR, or all of it if you choose, although we may not recommend that as the Switch VR mode is far from proven to be comfortable over long periods and a 60+ hour RPG may not be a great fit for long VR sessions.
Still, it should look pretty. You can grab the VR Labo kit starting April 12 for $80 with all its accessories, or the starter kit for just $40 for the goggles and blaster, including the Screen Holder and Safety Cap.
