A number of news sources have been reporting for the past couple of days that a new Metro game was slated for release in 2017. However while all suggestions still point to there being a Metro game in the works, it's not going to release next year.
"As the exclusive rights holder to videogames set in the Metro 2033 universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series. But just to manage our fans’ expectations – releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them," a statement published on the Metro Facebook page reads.
"When we have more news to share, we will," it concluded.
So it seems that a new Metro game is being made, but that we can't expect it next year. Maybe a 2018 release is planned, but for now we just don't know. It doesn't seem like Deep Silver has any intention of killing off the franchise - it's certainly been popular in the past, but what the future holds for the sewer shooter is anyone's guess.
The Metro games have been well known for their haunting setting and impressive visuals, so we can expect those to of a similarly high calibur in any future releases. But what else would you like to see in a new Metro game?
