BattleBorn was supposed to be one of the new crop of MOBA-like FPS games to take the online world by storm. Looking to compete directly with the likes of Overwatch and Paragon, BattleBorn was Take Two and Gearbox's big drive for a new online property. The marketing was on point, the gameplay was praised for being high-paced and satisfying, if a little light.
But none of that really mattered, as Battleborn launched in May this year to little fanfare and it hasn't really improved since.
Still, Take Two isn't giving up on it yet. It recently made the game available for just a few dollars in a Humble Bundle sale to try and drive up player numbers and spending is expected to continue in terms of promotion and content updates to keep the game fresh for those who are regularly logging in and slugging it out with one another.
"We’re still delivering new content to Battleborn. Audiences love Battleborn. We still have virtual currency coming for Battleborn. We’re not counting it out for a minute. We’re just telling you where we’re at now," said Take Two's Straus Zelnick in a chat with Eurogamer, in what must have been an overly confident tone.
The real surprise now will be if the game doesn't go free to play in the new future. That would likely give it more life, but how much is anyone's guess.
