One of the more touted features of Microsoft's Elite Xbox One game pad, was that you could remap the buttons on it. This is something that PC gamers have been able to do with their peripherals for well over a decade at this point, but it was quite a big deal for a console system to offer such an option.
Of course most balked at the price tag of the Elite controller as it's at least $150 at most retailers, so Microsoft has now brought the remapping feature to all Xbox One wireless controllers. Using the Xbox Accessories application, gamers can tap into their system to change what each button does, giving them an unprecedented level of control over their gaming experience.
The real difference is that the Elite Controllers come with built in memory to store the profiles locally whereas the standard gamepads can only save their configurations to the console itself.
It will be interesting to note whether remapped buttons have a competitive advantage in any scenarios. There may be certain games where switching around one or two commands can give a gamer willing to experiment a slight advantage in speed or reaction time because of it.
Are there any games you think could use a remapping of the buttons?
