Less than 24 hours since the Nvidia 1660 Ti and 1660 graphics cards were revealed in an unofficial, but definitive fashion, more rumors are beginning to leak out about the non-RTX Turing GPUs. This one has us rather excited, because it suggests that the release of the new cards is just around the corner.
According to HardOCP's sources, the GTX 1660 Ti and 1660 could release as soon as February 15, priced at $280, and $230 respectively. A further rumored card known as the GTX 1650 may debut a little later, sometime in mid-march, with a price tag of $180. Reportedly, the GTX 1060 Ti will continue to be supplied to retailers, but its price will drop further, edging closer to the $100 mark.
This is all rather exciting because Nvidia's RTX series of GPUs are very expensive for what they offer. Their 10-series+ performance and rather useless (if pretty) ray tracing feature are all well and good, but that's no good when very few gamers spend upwards of $500 on a GPU. The GTX 1060 is still the most popular card in the world, selling for around $280.
Considering the 1660 Ti will be priced around that and likely have performance somewhere around that of the GTX 1070, these new RTX-less Turing GPUs could prove exeedingly popular.
They will also seed the marketplace months ahead of AMD's planned Navi GPU release, which isn't slated to take place until the middle of the year. That said, when those cards do appear, their performance and pricing could be even more competitive if rumors are true. So perhaps Nvidia is just looking to get out ahead of that.
What do you think of all these 1660 rumors?
