New rumors about the potential release dates for Nvidia's next-generation graphics cards have hit the web and they suggest that the cards aren't a "long way off," as CEO Jensen Huang said earlier this year, but mere weeks away. The release is said to be a staggered one, with the top-tier cards launching first, followed by the mid-range offerings a month or two later.
This speculative suggestion comes from YouTuber, Gamer Meld, who claims that they received an email from an Nvidia add-in board partner about the release date of the cards being pushed back. They claim that the GTX 1180 will be released first, on August 30. This will be followed up a month later with the GTX 1180+ and a GTX 1170, with the GTX 1160 debuting on October 30.
The board partner also claims that they have a surplus of existing 10-series graphics cards, which may help ward off any big purchase plans for miners.
This is exciting news for anyone waiting to buy themselves a new graphics card, but there's also some other information worth pointing out. The GTX 1180+ is a potentially new SKU. It could be a Ti variant, though typically Nvidia waits a few months to release that revised edition of its top-end graphics card. More likely it will be factory overclocked versions of the GTX 1180 from third-party manufacturers, with the original 1180 being the Founders Edition card.
All of this is pure speculation though. It could be entirely fake and made up for views, but even if that's the case, we would expect new Nvidia cards to launch in the next few months.
