Following hot on the heels of Nvidia's release of the 1660 Ti graphics card, which is already proving popular and well received among reviewers and gamers alike for its relative low cost compared to Nvidia's RTX-series and it's lack of relatively useless Tensor and RT cores, Nvidia is set to debut two more in the GTX Turing range. The 1660 and 1650 are said to be mere weeks away from release, with both being available by the end of April.
Nvidia's 1660 Ti is roughly comparable to a GTX 1070 in terms of raw performance, making it a step or two below that of the RTX 2060. The 1660 would follow suit once again, offering a slight performance bump over last-generation's GTX 1060. The GTX 1650 would provide a slight increase of its 1050 predecessor, acting more like a 1050 Ti.
The cards are slated to launch on March 15 for the GTX 1660 and April 30 for the 1650, according to Digitimes. They will debut with price tags of $230 and $180 respectively.
The idea with these cards is to put pricing pressure on AMD at the mid range, where AMD still holds firm ground against Nvidia. While the green team dominates at the top end due to its performance, pricing, and sheer availability (good luck finding a Radeon VII at a reasonable price) AMD's RX 570, 580, and 590 still offer decent performance at the sub $250 price points.
This is all to head off AMD's upcoming Navi launch too. The allegedly mid-range cards will come in at comparable price points, but we're told they could offer performance up to RTX 2070 levels. If so, they could prove fantastically popular.
