Following rumors and leaks for the past couple of weeks, Nvidia has finally officially announced the GTX 1070 Ti. It's built on the same Pascal architecture as the rest of the GTX 10 series range, and acts as a way to bolster the existing line up of graphics cards before Nvidia's Volta platform debuts in 2018.
The GTX 1070 Ti will slot in between the existing 1080 and 1070 models, both of which have had price cuts to $500 and $330 respectively. With that in mind, the 1070 Ti fits in quite well at $450, offering a more powerful alternative to the 1070 and a slightly weaker option than the 1080.
In terms of raw specifications, the card packs 2,432 cores with 8GB of GDDR5 which runs at 8Gbps, giving up a bandwidth of 256 GBps. It's said to be as much as twice as powerful as the GTX 970, which still remains one of the most popular graphics cards in the world.
That won't be all either, as Nvidia's announcement claims that the new card will be heavily overclockable, though it doesn't get into specifics. What it does do though, is highlight how strong the card will be when playing new releases like Destiny 2, Shadows of War and Star Wars Battlefront II. It also supports technologies like DirectX12 and Vulkan, as well as HDR and high-end virtual reality.
The GTX 1070 Ti is slated to begin shipping out on November 2, with third-party manufacturers offering their own versions shortly after. The recommended retail price is $450, though aftermarket variants will no doubt offer a little more, for a little more.
