The wait is almost over folks. In three weeks time, we will finally get our first look at what Nvidia has been working on for the past two years with regards to its GPU technology. At Gamescom on August 20, it will reveal its next-generation graphics cards. We still don't know if that's a 20-series or 11-series nomenclature, whether it's Turing or Volta, but we'll learn all that and more within the month.
Although Nvidia will be at Gamescom itself, with new hardware powering new games in a variety of booths and at its own in Hall 10.1, it will also be hosting its own, pre-show event. That's where we'll hear about the new graphics cards, in what Nvidia is describing as a "GeForce Gaming Celebration."
Curiously it hasn't announced where it is yet, but it will likely be nearby the Gamesom event in Cologne, Germany. It's set to begin on Monday, August 20 at 6PM and run through to midnight, and will then open up the next day between 10AM and 5PM with Nvidia then moving over to the main Gamescom show.
What exactly it's unveiling remains mum for now, but we're told that there will be new graphics card tech there, as well as new hands-on-demos for upcoming games, stage presentations and "spectacular surprises."
We would expect to see at the least, a new GTX 1180 and 1170 card at the show, and possibly the GTX 1160 and rumored GTX 1180+, though that's less likely. The rumored release dates for these cards is end of August and throughout September.
