Nvidia is teasing something "Super" on its YouTube channel, suggesting that it will have an announcement of sorts for the upcoming Computex and/or E3 trade shows, quite possibly in response to its main competition, AMD, which has some major announcements of its own coming soon.
The next few months are going to be an exciting time for fans of PC hardware, with AMD poised to announce both a new generation of CPUs in the form of the Zen 2-based Ryzen 3000 chips, and its next-generation graphics cards, in the form of Navi. The relative price and performance of these components has been hinted at by leaks and rumors, but we don't know what they'll be like for sure. What we do know though, is that typically Nvidia responds to AMD card launches with a counter of its own. That could well be what this "Super" tease is all about.
The video doesn't show us much, just the Super logo, but it does look similar to the way Nvidia embeds its RTX logo in graphics cards. Could we be looking at some backplate branding?
Nvidia has previously been rumored to be working on some enhanced versions of its RTX graphics cards that use 16Gbps memory rather than the existing 14Gbps. That would equate to a mild uplift in GPU performance which if rumors are true of potential Navi performance, might make them more competitive with AMD's new cards.
Perhaps we'll see "Super" versions of the 2080, 2070 and 2060. What do you think?
